Yi (Charice) Tang is a Chinese-born, Boston-based violinist and educator. She is the co-founder of GAIA Quartet, an all-female string quartet with a commitment to celebrating the music of living and underrepresented composers.
As a soloist, orchestral, and chamber musician, Charice has performed at esteemed venues such as Stuttgart’s Liederhalle (Germany), Museo del Violino in Cremona (Italy), Campbell Recital Hall at Stanford, Boston’s Wang Theater at the Boch Center, and Longy’s Pickman Hall.
Charice has collaborated with many emerging young and established composers, such as Patrick Wu, Daniel Bernard Roumain(DBR) and Christine Delphine Hedden. She has also collaborated with ensembles ranging from INTERWOVEN, Aizuri Quartets, to the Horszowski Trio. In 2024, she was invited to the St. Lawrence Chamber Music Seminar with GAIA Quartet, where she worked with members from St. Lawrence String Quartet, Kronos Quartet and Brentano Quartet.
Charice holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Violin Performance from Staatliche Hochschule der Musik und Darstellenden Kunst (Stuttgart, Germany). She graduated from Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA) with a Graduate Performance Diploma and a Master's degree. Charice is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Connecticut.
In addition to performing, Charice is an experienced Eurythmics educator, developing classes and working with students ages 4-6. Charice has participated in various international workshops for Eurythmics educators, such as Die Kunst der Elementaren Musikpädagogik at Ladesakademie Ochsenhausen in Ochsenhausen, Germany, as well as Journées Européennes de la Rhythmique in Geneva, Switzerland.
