MM SUZUKI PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Zoe Chau

Ms. Chau is a certified Suzuki teacher and violinist/violist, with dual master’s degrees in Violin and Viola Performance and experience directing school string ensembles. She is committed to helping students grow in musicianship, confidence, and connection through inclusive, engaging programming.

Program participants have gone on to join NEC Prep Ensembles, Rivers Youth Orchestras, and a range of school and community orchestras, with many earning positive outcomes in ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams.

Zoe Chau is a Boston-based violinist, violist, and music educator. She holds dual master’s degrees in Violin Performance and Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and earned the Licentiate (LTCL) Performance Diploma in Violin (with Distinction) and the Associate (ATCL) Performance Diploma in Viola from Trinity College London.

A certified Suzuki teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Zoe has taught since 2014 and brings experience leading school and community string ensembles. As a performer, she enjoys a wide range of styles, from baroque to fiddle, and performs regularly with local orchestras and chamber ensembles, including as a baroque violist with the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

Zoe's teaching philosophy centers on patient structure, musical curiosity, and age-appropriate independence. In lessons, she helps students build healthy technique, attentive listening, and confidence through small achievable steps, while supporting families with practical guidance for home practice.
